Seed List
This article will discuss the 'Seed List' and how it is used
Background
When sending client list sample, it is always a good practice to send a test email to confirm everything looks and works the way it was intended. The 'Seed List' is the term used for the list of test recipients and variables you will be sending your initial test email. This list will allow you to add email addresses and variables for piping into your email such as first name and last name to personalize your emails.
This is a very important step in the process because in order to be able to send out an 'Email Send', the system will not allow you to send out any emails to your sample without sending out at least one test.
Accessing the 'Seed List'
- Create an 'Email Campaign' if you haven't already. You will need at least one to begin.

- The 'Seed List' is located on the top left
Adding a 'Seed List'
There are 2 ways to create a 'Seed List'
- Click on the pencil icon to edit the 'Seed List'
- The 'Seed List' interface will then appear
- Now you have 2 options to add your 'Seed List'
- Uploading a 'Seed List'
- Create a file which contains all the pertinent information and save it where you would like on your computer. This will usually contain a column with first name, last name and any other information you would like to be piped into your email invitation.
- You MUST have a column called 'email_address'
- Supported file types are: CSV, XLSX or TSV
- If you upload a file, this will replace any existing recipients on the existing list
- Below is a basic example of a .CSV file with four respondents and column headers
- Click on the 'Upload' button
- The following screen will appear
- Click on the 'Select File' button and search for your file
- Your file name will then appear and next click the 'Next' button
- The next screen will confirm the information your are uploading. Review this information and click 'Upload' when you are ready
- Create a file which contains all the pertinent information and save it where you would like on your computer. This will usually contain a column with first name, last name and any other information you would like to be piped into your email invitation.
- The second option will be to create the 'Seed List' using the built in interface.
- Click on the '+ Entry' to add a respondent and click on the '+ Variable Column' to add any variables you would like to include
- Fill out the table as needed. It would end up looking like a spreadsheet
- Once you have filled in the table, click on the 'Update' button
- Click on the '+ Entry' to add a respondent and click on the '+ Variable Column' to add any variables you would like to include
- Uploading a 'Seed List'
- The list will start getting processed. Once the file has been uploaded you will see the total number of respondents
